We finally got to Ao Nang...

I took a much longer break from blogging than intended. In fact, no break was intended, it was simply a must. With two kids sick at home (and, in the end, my husband as well), I had no time or energy to sit down and write anything. Luskily, all of them are ok right now, so I can get back to writing. Phew!

This coming Friday is last day of the first semester here in our schools. So my son is going to have his first ever winter break. You can imagine how excited he is about that one. Especially that he's going to (I wanna say) Italy with his grandparents to do some skiing. Yes, I'm also jealous of that. But some have to work, so that others can have great time.

But, when we were in Thailand, he was going to school. So he was working back then when we were having fun. So we're even. I guess...

Anyway.

We had enough of Bangkok. The city is huge, loud, overcrowded...And that definitely wasn't what we were looking for in Thailand. Just to make it clear, we didn't regret any minute of the time we spent in Bangkok, cause we wanted to see what it had to offer. But we also wanted to chill out, relax, we were hoping for some nature experience.

We got onto a night bus (cause we're hip and young... not!) and went to Ao Nang. We got there around 9 am and, luckily for us, our room was already waiting for us. A quick shower and a change of clothes later, we were off for something to eat and sneaking around the neighbourhood. We also booked ourselves trips for the next two days.

On our way to the beach, we bought ourselves some chicken, wrapped in leaves, and got to the high wall separating the street from the beach. You have to go down the stairs to get to the beach. Instead, we decided to sit on said wall, eat our brunch and just enjoy the view.

Ok, the view wasn't much to enjoy. See that grey skies? That's smog from Indonesia (from the controlled forest fires). The smog got there a few days before us (3-4 days). We could hardly see anything. I mean - the view. Cause in the streets it was fine. Water was grey, sky was grey, there was no horizon. Or was there? Hard to tell. Nevertheless, it was very warm (it's still Thailand, after all), so we decided to make most of our time there.

We went for a walk. On the beach. And on the streets. Just walking around, getting to know the neighbourhood, chilling, doing nothing, eating delicious food. The beach in Ao Nang isn't pretty anyway, so even when the weather is sunny, I wouldn't see myself lying there and enjoying myself.

Besides, after that long night on the bus (I don't regret taking the night bus, but it proved me that I'm no longer as young as I thought I was) and before the next two very active days, we just wanted to recharge our batteries and rest as much as we could.

So, enjoy the views! Yes, these are pictures taken in Thailand. And no, don't compare them to any others, cause then they would suck even more ;)

 Our lunch spot
 And our nicely packed lunch
 The beach

 See that tiny lizard?
Mr. Crab. Nice gentleman. Went out to say "hello"
Muscles. Not so nice. Attacked my fingers when I wanted to have a closer look at the shell. Apparently, it was still alive ;)

Have you ever been to Thai coast (any part of it)? Did you get a chance to enjoy the view? ;)
Or maybe you were as lucky as we were?

  1. Isn't it such a shame when the weather conspires against you?! We had a similar experience in Bangkok - we found it quite overwhelming, and whilst I really enjoyed visiting it did take some getting used to. We didn't make it out to the coast - we went to Siem Reap instead - but I think I'd really like it there. The walk you went on looks really interesting.

    1. It is such a shame. How did you enjoy Siem Reap? I wanted to visit there, too. But there's so much to see in Thailand and Cambodia (in the whole region really), that we had to cross something off our list for this particular trip.

  2. That lizard looks massive!! And it is so interesting the way that your food was packaged. It is annoying when the weather was bad but it isn't the be all and end all - there is still fun to be had and things to be seen!

    1. Weather was a bit of a shame, but we still had a great time - that is true. And, at least I didn't get sunburnt (yet). The lizard was massive, like 2 metres long (or more). Scary.

  3. Such a bummer about the smog. I really loved my banana leaf wrapped lunches from Thailand and Indonesia! Some of my favorites from my travels.

  4. I have never been to Thailand but I have always wanted to! Haha I really like your pictures, my favorite is the one of the boats with bright ribbons on them. I'm sorry there was so much smog but I'm glad you still enjoyed yourselves!

    1. We really did enjoy ourselves. To me, Thailand was a dream come true. And so unexpected (as we were supposed to cruise the Nile river at that time). So you never know what's right round the corner for you :)

  5. Oh man, that's such a shame that you got the sucky smog/pollution :(. This isn't what you think of when you hear Thai beach. The little crab is cute though, hehe.

    1. That's true, this was not the weather we were hoping for. But we got some sun and true Thai colours as well! Just not in Ao Nang ;)
