The westernmost of the five

From Riomaggiore we decided to head to the westernmost of the five villages, that is to Monterosso al Mare. The weather was horrible and we didn't know how much we could still see that day. Plus, we hoped for better weather the next day and we didn't want to spoil ourselves the experience of seeing Vernazza or Manarola in the lovely sunshine. We sat on a bench in Monterosso, right by the playground (but not the one described before. We came across a Polish family with a boy of Arturek's age, so boys played together and we talked about our experiences in Cinque Terre and Italy, I don't have this playground on any of my pictures) and we came up with alternative plans for the next day. Having figured that out, we decided it was time to see a bit more of Monterosso than just what is right outside the railway station.

Monterosso is the most touristy of the five. In the sense that it is the flattest of all and most of the hotels are located in Monterosso. Plus, it has the largest beaches. Ones that you can truly lie on and relax. And, I think, it is also the biggest of the five.

Once we went through the tunnel (Cinque Terre are full of tunnels ;) but there's no other option if you're surrounded by mountains, right?), another part was open for us. With yet another beach (more sandy than the one near the train station, but this one was stinky when we went there), yet another playground (the one that Arturek was playing on right before our beach break). That is also the part, where the trail to Vernazza begins. Since it was closed due to poor weather conditions, we only got to the beginning of the trail, as we were intrigued by the bridge that we could see from the distance. Plus, in case the weather didn't get any prettier, we wanted to get a more distant view of Monterosso as well. So we went all the way up to the bridge.

And it was worth all the effort. The views were wonderful. The sun started picking from behind the clouds creating colourful and bright spots on the water. And climbing up to a place that we can call a viewpoint in order to look down on a village, town or city - we're always in!

No i ma największe plaże.

Our beach break spot. See the rock sticking out of water? Yes, that's the same one, just seen from another angle ;) / Nasze miejsce plażowania.
