Paris - a few tips

If you're planning a trip to Paris, it's good to know a few things. Or to be aware of a few things. These are the things that we were either aware of and found helpful or we wished we had known before.

If you're flying in to Beauvais (like we did), there's a bus service that takes you to Paris. The bus leaves something like twenty minutes after the plane lands. It's enough time even if you have to use the toilette. So don't worry about that. You can buy the bus tickets online and then save 1,10 euro on each ticket. Or buy the ticket in the ticket office right next to the bus stop. (Our plane was the last to land for the following two hours. There were three or four buses ready to take us to Paris. Not everyone from the plane found a place on the bus for themselves). The other option is renting a car, which you can also do at the airport (or in advance, most likely). That was of no interest to us.

When you get to Paris, the best option is to move around either on foot, on a bicycle or using public transport. Forget about the car. We chose the last option. Our hotel was right next to the metro station and we found it most convenient to move around by metro trains. Since we were not interested in visiting Louvre or Versailles, we decided not to but the Paris Visite tickets. We came to Paris on Monday and were planning to stay till Sunday, so the best (and cheapest) option for us was to but Navigo Semaine (weekly tickets on Navigo Cards). There are no reduced price tickets on Navigo, though. Artur was moving around on single ride tickets (was cheaper than buying him the Paris Visite). We bought the tickets for zones 1-5, since we were going to Disneyland and CDG Airport, but you can also buy 1-3 zones.

Using metro with a pushchair is difficult. There are practically no elevators or escalators leading to and from the platforms. So get ready to carry the pushchairs up and down the stairs.

Navigo cards let you buy Batobus tickets a bit cheaper, too! And if you have enough time, try to see Paris from the Seine River. It's a whole new perspective. Plus the ticket for Batobus is valid the whole day (or more, depending on the ticket you buy) and it's a hop on hop off kind of ticket. They take pushchairs on board, too.

Go to Berthillon for ice cream. The flavours are to die for.

If you get a chance, buy yourself the Eiffel Tower tickets in advance. They are available online. All you have to do is choose the day and time.

If you're planning to go to Disneyland, give yourself a chance to find a cheaper ticket. You can, of course, go to Disneyland web page, choose your country of origin and buy the ticket there. But unless you're looking for a deal with Disneyland hotel, there's no sense doing that. Try going to the page as Ile-de-France (the web page is then in French, but even if you can't speak the language, you'll manage to find what you're interested in), cause they get many good deals. And no-one's checking whether you're really the citizen of Paris. Or you can do what we did ;) I checked the prices on Disneyland web page and found a good deal as Francilien. Then went to fnac web page and found an even better deal for the same date as Francilien (yet again, you have to browse the page in French for the better deals). And with fnac, you can either print yourself the ticket (then you have to pay extra 0,50 euro per ticket) or you can pick them up with no extra cost at one of fnac offices in Paris (one is on Champs Elysees). The difference in price? For our family, we'd have had to pay around 180 euro as foreigners on Disneyland webpage. Francilien on Disneyland webpage had to pay 135 euro. Via fnac, we paid 118,50 euro (including the extra cost of printing the tickets at home). About 60 euros (compared to the original price) in the pocket. Worth it, isn't it?

Zapomnijcie o samochodzie.

Można to zrobić online. Wystarczy wybrać datę i godzinę.

    1. Paris is amazing. With a kid as well. If a kiddo is older, then it's great - you can do whatever you like. With an infant it's a bit more challenging, but doable. Parisians are very helpful and open to people with kids (or, at least, they were open to us). Thanks for visiting :)
